Home inventory does not have to be a project you put off—especially before you move.

Room-by-room Easy to review Ready when needed

Before you move

Make the move with a record in hand.

A pre-move inventory supports personal organization and clearer communication with movers. It is a factual reference for your belongings—not a promise about responsibility, reimbursement, or any outcome.

01

Document before pickup

Work room by room before packing or pickup. Give extra attention to high-value, fragile, and easy-to-overlook belongings.

02

Keep the details together

Retain photos, item details, receipts, serial numbers, and notes with the inventory so the record is easier to refer back to.

03

Check in at delivery

Use the inventory as you unpack to identify items that are missing or damaged and create a clear record for follow-up.

A clear record, step by step

A home inventory that fits real life.

Start with the room in front of you. ProofMyStuff.com helps turn everyday details into a record you can understand and keep.

1

Start with a room

Choose a full room or single item scan. Scan a room, then select the objects in that scan you want to catalog.

2

Review your catalog

Confirm item details and add context to make your inventory more useful.

3

Keep documentation together

Add receipts, serial numbers, and notes to keep supporting details close to each item.

4

Download your report

Create a clear Home Inventory Report to keep for your records, a move, or a difficult day.

A record for the moments ahead

Home, moving, insurance, and estate documentation—kept together.

Build a room-by-room home inventory while details are still easy to confirm, then keep the information organized when you need to refer back to it.

Moving documentation

Know exactly what you handed over—and what arrives.

Document rooms, high-value items, fragile belongings, and the details that make them easier to recognize at delivery.

Use the same record as a practical reference while unpacking and communicating about items that need follow-up.

Create a dated, room-by-room visual record before packing starts.

Review the same documented items as you settle into the next home.

Insurance documentation

Prepare a clearer record before the unexpected.

  • Proves what you owned before a loss. After a fire, theft, hurricane, or other covered event, you may be asked to identify what was lost or damaged. ProofMyStuff creates a pre-loss record using photographs, item descriptions, brands, models, serial numbers, receipts, and other documentation. State insurance regulators specifically recommend maintaining a detailed home inventory.
  • Can help reduce the risk of items being omitted from a claim. Without an inventory, people can simply forget possessions after a major loss. A room-by-room pre-loss inventory gives the homeowner a list to work from rather than relying solely on memory.
  • Can help challenge an inaccurate or overly low valuation with evidence. ProofMyStuff cannot determine what an insurer is legally required to pay, but it can preserve evidence showing what the item actually was and what a comparable replacement may cost. Actual Cash Value and Replacement Cost Value coverage can work differently and are subject to the policy's terms.
  • Shows why a headline personal-property limit may not apply to every possession. A policy might show $100,000 of personal-property coverage, but that does not mean every category of property is automatically covered up to the full $100,000. Policies can contain special limits, exclusions, deductibles, conditions, and other restrictions.
  • Creates a dated visual history of your home. Periodic rescans can show what was in each room at different points in time and help identify newly purchased items to add to your inventory.
  • Helps document categories people routinely overlook. Garages, closets, kitchens, home offices, tools, sporting equipment, electronics, clothing, outdoor equipment, and storage areas can represent substantial collective value even when individual items seem insignificant.

Review your actual policy and consult your insurer or a qualified professional with coverage questions. ProofMyStuff does not interpret policies or determine coverage.

Estate & inheritance organization

Keep household-item information easier to review.

A clear household record can help organize information for estate planning, executors, heirs, or professional review. It is documentation for reference—not a probate valuation or formal estate appraisal.

Estate documentation

A factual household record for the people who may need it later.

Before death, create a complete inventory of the physical property in a home—so details are easier to find when family members, executors, or professionals need a starting point.

A dated record, not a legal determination.

A record can reduce uncertainty and the burden of searching by showing what was documented and where it was located. It does not establish ownership, prove legal title, validate a will or trust, control inheritance, or guarantee a probate or claim outcome.

Inventory the household

Keep photos, descriptions, serial numbers, receipts, and supporting documents with jewelry, art, collectibles, tools, furniture, vehicles, electronics, heirlooms, and other physical property.

Give executors a starting point

A room-by-room record can help executors and heirs identify documented possessions and their locations. Estate and probate requirements vary by state.

Heirlooms & stated wishes

Preserve the story alongside the item.

Document heirlooms with photos, history or provenance, current owner, receipts, and appraisal records where available. Item tags such as “intended recipient” or “family heirloom” can record a stated wish and create a dated factual record that may help reduce uncertainty around inheritance disputes.

Important: item notes are not controlling legal documents.

They are not a legally valid will, trust, or estate-planning document and do not control legal distribution.

Planned functionality: attach relevant estate-plan material to an item for reference. This is a future capability and is not currently available.

For documentation and organization only

ProofMyStuff is not legal, tax, probate, estate-planning, or appraisal advice. Consult a qualified estate-planning attorney or other professional for legal documents and decisions.

Made for real homes, built for safer records.

The scan experience, room-by-room inventory, supporting details, and a downloadable Home Inventory Report give you an easier way to keep a record of the everyday things in your home that matter—before you move, after you settle in, or when you need to refer back.

Guided, not overwhelming. Take one room at a time and return whenever you are ready.

Made for your records. Keep useful supporting documentation close to each item.

A clear note about estimates

Useful information, not an insurance decision.

ProofMyStuff is not an insurer and does not provide insurance valuations, appraisals, coverage recommendations or determinations, claim-settlement guarantees, legal advice, tax advice, probate valuations, or formal estate appraisals. Item and value estimates, along with the Documentation Score, are informational only. Use your records to prepare and organize; consult a licensed insurance professional, attorney, tax professional, appraiser, or estate professional as appropriate.
